NORDAM ON THE AIR ON NEW YEAR DAY

Dear listeners and friends,

At first, we would like to thank you for your kind comments and helpful
reception reports. We were really happy to hear from you and have confirmed
all reception reports with our QSL card some weeks ago.

2011 comes to its end - and we were wondering how we could make New Year
even greater than it is already. And we were sure the only possible way is a
special broadcast of NordAM with lots of unbelievably good music. So forget
what you were planning to do and do tune in to good old shortwave:

01/01/2012

1500-1600 UTC: 6005, 3995 kHz
2000-2100 UTC: 3995 kHz

Please note that this schedule is in UTC. Our show is transmitted at 16.00 /
21.00 Central European Time (CET). We use Radio 700's transmitters in
Kall-Krekel, Germany (1000 Watts). Please note our new frequency 3995 kHz.
We are part of Radio700's testing for Radio HCJB which is going to use this
frequency in the future with a bigger schedule. So your reception reports
about 3995 kHz will not only help NordAM or Radio 700 but also HCJB.
All reception reports (3995 AND 6005 of course) will be confirmed with our
QSL card (via regular mail or email, as you wish). Please send your reports
to our address:

nordam@shortwaveservice.com

Feel free to forward this message to your DXing friends. We are excited to
read (and hear?) where our little "student-radio-project" can be received.
NordAM is also audible via Radio 700's online streaming here:
http://www.shortwaveservice.com/?page_id=25 (please see our schedule and
choose the 3995 or 6005 link). Our own Facebook page is available at:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/NordAM/231948116860158

We hope you will like our special choice of music and will bring you joy and
happiness through the airwaves. We look forward to hearing from you!

All the best for 2012 and kind regards,
Torben & Daniel

P.S: More details about HCJB and Radio 700: www.hcjb.de & www.radio700.eu.

P.P.S: You got this message because we received an e-mail from you some time
ago. If you would like to be removed from our mailing-list, please drop us a

Dutch commercial stations applaud higher pirate fines

The Association of Commercial Radio Stations (VCR) is satisfied with the higher penalty of up to 45,000 euros for radio pirates recently announced by Radiocommunications Agency Netherlands.
A specific category of radio pirates, especially in the provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe, use increasingly taller transmission towers and higher power. National and regional broadcasters are regularly disturbed by these ‘air guns’ says the VCR. “This is mainly because the pirates operate their transmission equipment on or around the FM frequencies of legal stations.”
“These pirates often consist of teams of 20, 30 or even more people. With such a large team, a small fine makes no impression,” says the VCR. “Commercial radio stations annually spend millions of euros on their broadcasting activities. An undisturbed FM reach is crucial for these stations. If their FM coverage is limited by an illegal broadcaster, the economic loss is significant.”

FRS-HOLLAND ON AIR THIS SUNDAY

Dear FRS Friends,
I N V I T A T I O N

Following successful December broadcasts in the past few years (but also long time ago), FRS-Holland will again take to the airwaves over
the X-Mas Holiday Season.
December 18th we will continue a long time tradition. On that day FRSH will be on 7600//5800 kHz between 07:52- 14:00 CET.
After close down, the full programming will be repeated via the internet between 15:52- 22:00 CET: < http://nednl.net:8000/frsh.m3u>.
Pxs will be presented by Jan van Dijk doing the German show & Dave Scott will be playing classic rock. Both shows contain radio related
items. Paul Graham will be hosting another classic FRS Golden Show playing great 60s/ 70s stuff as well as a feature on a land based  pirate
radio station from years gone by. Peter Verbruggen will look back to what happened in the past on December 18th (Day Calendar) and plays a
mix of 80s/90s/00s records in FRS Magazine. He will also host two FRS Goes DX editions with the latest news from the wonderful world of wireless.
During all pxs we will read out October mail and Season's Greetings. There's also the Phrase that Pays. And: we make a flash back to December 1988
when FRS-Holland was on the air with a Seasonal broadcast. Remeniscing....23 years ago.....
Tune in next Sunday and taste the spirit of December!! It will be worth while.

73s, Peter V. (on behalf of the FRS staff)

Why there are a lot of free radios in the Netherlands?

I asked OP Mister X: "Why there are so a lot of  free radios in the Netherlands?". Here is his answer to my question. I decided to share with answer to everyone who is interested in free radio.

"That is a very interesting question and I will try to explain that to you.
The estimation is that there are 800 pirate stations active!

There are a lot of pirate radio stations in the Netherlands but the most are only active on 3 m FM and the government did start a special campaign to get rid of them.
The result is that there are hardly one man stations left on FM and there are now groups of pirates together for one station. These stations use high power transmitters like 10 - 15 KiloWatts. The penalties for these station are also very high and are ˆ 2500 for the first raid. (That's why the groups are 10 - 20 persons)
There is a economic reason for the government want the FM pirates of air. Official stations paid a lot of money to get a permit for frequencies.

Another group of pirates are on MW and SW.
This is the oldest group. Pirate radio started on MW in the 60 and 70's at the same time as the offshore radio stations like Veronica, Noordzee, Caroline.
There are still a lot of those old pirates, who wants to make radio with old Dutch and German songs and a lot of polkas.
This is music that is not played on the official radio stations.
I think we are very free people and we do not like government regulations and it is big fun to play your own records and get reactions on that.
You never know who is listening and where the signal is received.
We see lately that some FM pirates move to MW because of the high penalties on FM. But the penalties on MW and SW are the same as on FM!
Because MW and SW is not of interest anymore by the Government are little stations now raided on MW or SW or there must be serious complains about interference on other frequencies like rescue or ships.
I like the spirit of AM pirates very much. The most of them are builders, they build there own equipment and they want to help others.
building is still difficult for me but I will try this winter to build my own SW transmitter with parts that are laying around here.

The most pirates are in the North and East part of the Netherlands. In the areas where the people speak a Dutch dialect. These are farmers people and they are very different from the Western city people like in Amsterdam.

Maybe a nice site with a lot of photos of Dutch FM and some MW pirates is this site on internet: www.klompenboer.nl
Search for example for Relmus MW, and you see their equipment. Also interesting is the button witch is called "oude zenders" (a lot of photos of old transmitters).

OK, that's for now".
